Senior VMware Engineer
Secure-24 is seeking a Senior VMware engineer with experience in architecture, implementations and support of large ESX/ESXi deployments. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years working as a system administrator with 5 years focused on VMware. The Senior VMware engineer will help architect and design all aspects for the VMware infrastructure including SAN, Network and hardware. The ideal candidate will have experience managing 150+ ESX/ESXi hosts.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and support VMware ESX/ESXi infrastructure including Cisco UCS
- Define all architectural standards relating to the VMware infrastructure including network technologies (virtual switches, Nexus 1000v and distributed switches), storage technologies (multipathing, datastores, etc.), and ESX
- Provide technical resolution to advanced incident and problem events related to the VMware infrastructure
- Design and implement monitoring and performance analysis tools
- Assist with day to day operations of the virtual infrastructure
- Help to define and execute ongoing administration and health maintenance plans, procedures, and operations
- Proactively address network, storage, or system performance issues
- Capacity Planning
- Documentation of the virtual infrastructure
- Automation and deployment of all virtual machines
- Research and test new products in relation to VMware and help to develop a service offering around these products
- Design and implement VDI
- Design, implement, and support of SRM
Qualifications:
- Deep and broad experience with design and implementation of ESX/ESXi (3.x and 4.x).
- Ideal candidate will have experience with architecture and implementation of large deployments (150+ systems) in a Cisco UCS infrastructure
- Strong understanding of SRM
- Strong understanding of EMC and NetApp storage technologies including working knowledge of Fiber Channel Switches (Management and Monitoring)
- Strong understanding of Storage multipathing technology (ALUA, Power Path, NMP) and how it integrates into VMware
- Strong understanding of Storage replication technology (Mirrorview, Snapmirror, Recover Point)
- Strong understanding of Network Technologies
- Strong understanding of Windows Server OS (Windows 2000, 2003, 2008)
- Strong understanding of Linux Server OS
- Experience scripting utilizing Perl, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Strong leadership skills to effectively mentor and lead junior level personnel
- Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills for design, creation and testing of complex systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization skills to interact with customers to prioritize work, balance and lead complex projects
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of ITIL framework
Education and Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science/information Systems or equivalent
- 10+ years experience in advanced systems administration
- 5 years experience architecting and managing large VMware deployments
- Required Certifications: VCP, VCAP-DCA or VCAP-DCD
- Preferred Certification: CCNA, CCIE, VCDX
